6 steps to getting your French Schengen Visa
Travelling to France? Here are some essential steps which should help make your French Schengen Visa planning a pleasant experience.
As a UK resident, you can apply for a French Schengen visa, which will allow you to travel to France and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
A UK resident is anyone with a Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) card, UK Residence Permit or Channel Island stamp in their passport.
You can also apply for Long Stay applications for British Passport holders.

- Check Eligibility
- Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days after your return from your planned trip.
- Your BRP card or UK visa must be valid for at least 30 days after your return from your planned trip.
- You must live in the UK or Channel Islands to apply from the UK.
- Complete the Online Application
- Fill in your application form/s
- Create your TLS account
- Gather Required Documents
- Passport (valid for at least 3 months after your return)
- Passport-sized photos
- Travel health insurance
- Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings, invitation letter, etc.)
- Proof of financial means (bank statements, etc.)
- Flight reservations
- Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip
- Book an Appointment
- Book you an appointment based on your travel requirements.
- Attend Your Appointment
- Submit your application
- Attend a Biometric appointment – Biometric data (fingerprints and photo) will be collected and you will sign the application form and documentation.
- Wait for Decision
- Processing time usually takes 5-15 working days but can vary.
Important Considerations
- Apply in advance – It’s recommended to apply at least 15 working days before your trip.
- Provide accurate information – False or misleading information can lead to visa refusal.
