Here’s what you need to know about getting your photo taken for a French Schengen visa application:

General Specifications:

  • Size: 35mm x 45mm (with a maximum deviation of 5mm allowed).
  • Colors: Must be a high-quality color photograph. Black and white photos are not accepted.
  • Quantity: Two identical photos are required.
  • Recency: The photos must be recent, taken within the last 6 months.

Background:

  • Use a plain light-colored background, preferably white or light gray. Avoid patterned or busy backgrounds.
  • Ensure the background creates a clear contrast with your face.

Photo Requirements:

  • Head Position: Keep your head straight and centered, facing the camera directly.
  • Facial Expression: Maintain a neutral expression. No smiling or frowning allowed.
  • Eyes: Eyes must be open and looking directly at the camera.
  • Headwear: Generally not allowed. Exceptions are made for religious purposes, but the headwear must not cover any part of your face. Ensure your facial features are clearly visible from forehead to chin, with no headwear touching your eyebrows.
  • Clothing: Avoid wearing clothes that blend in with the background color.
  • Clarity: The photo must be clear and in focus, with no red-eye, shadows or reflections on your face.

Additional Tips:

  • Double-check all the requirements before submitting your application to avoid delays.
  • Must be Standard British passport size.
  • Be of a good quality with a clear white or grey background.
  • Not taken by yourself.
  • Not have been photo-shopped or filtered.
  • Not wearing white as it blends with the background.
  • It must not have been used before and not older than 6 months
  • No smiling or teeth showing, and no Spectacles or glasses.
  • If you have long hair, it must be tied back (not up) or behind your shoulders, and no ear rings or jewelery.
  • No hair in the face, hair must not touch or cross the eyebrows at all.
  • Not wearing a hooded jumper, polo neck or jacket.
