A quick update for those of you who have, or need, an eVisa.
What is an eVisa? A reminder…
An eVisa is an online record of an individual’s immigration status and the conditions of their permission to enter or stay in the United Kingdom. It is part of the UK government’s move towards a digital immigration system, aiming to replace physical documents like Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs), and visa vignettes (stickers in passports).
Have you linked your eVisa using your BRP card?
If your eVisa is set up and linked to your BRP card, to avoid issues when travelling, you should update your UKVI account to be linked to your current valid passport instead. UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) still recommends taking your BRP card with you when travelling until the 1st of June 2025. So, to ensure the smoothest possible experience at border control and check in (if that exists), make sure the following is done before you travel.
You can read more detail on updating your UKVI account details here.
Key Points
- 1Make sure your eVisa is linked to your current valid passport
- 2Take a printed copy of your eVisa and Share Code with you when you travel (when getting your share code, choose the 3rd option ‘For other purposes’)
- 3
Always keep a digital copy of these on your phone, laptop, or tablet as a backup.
- 4
Until 1st June 2025, take your BRP card with you even if expired.
